Nicaragua | Day 3

We enjoyed breakfast with Margine as the kids got ready for school. We then gathered our items and walked to Young Life, where we met up with the rest of our group and drove forty minutes north to the city of Jinotega where the Vida Joven camp is located. Once we arrived, we took a tour of the camp. It was gorgeous, and they told us that it holds around 350 campers per camp! Then we started our week-long service project of sanding down the bricks on the outside of the cabins, and restoring it back to its original color.

Later that afternoon we were able to go up to the coffee fields and try our coffee harvesting skills! We learned the history of the coffee farm and all the ways they focus on the quality of their beans. They even pay their workers 25% more than any other coffee farms in the area to encourage producing the best quality product!

That evening, we walked through the rain to a labyrinth half a mile away from camp. As we walked through individually, we were asked to remember what God has done for us over the years, what He has healed, and to focus on whatever else He brings to mind. At the end of the labyrinth there was a cross with a small spotlight on it. As the rain fell all around us, we stood face to face with the cross. It was such a powerful moment where God reminded us of His control, worthiness, and the beauty of His plans and creation. What a way to end the day!
