PREEMINENT: Hope For A Confused World From Colossians
Paul's letter to the Colossians boldly declares how we should see, feel, and think about Jesus. Jesus is supreme over all! Existence itself was created by Him and for Him. Who He is and what He has done liberates us to live every day by His power and in His presence.
In Part Six of this series, Pastor Caleb Culver unpacks verses 24-27 and explains how Paul went from making others suffer greatly, to suffering greatly for others. Don’t miss this timely word!
Focus Scripture
Colossians 1:24-27 (NKJV)
“I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church, 25 of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God, 26 the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. 27 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
Sermon Highlights
Paul went from making others suffer greatly, to suffering greatly for others
The glory on the other side was greater than the suffering he was enduring in the present
We cannot increase God’s glory, but we can magnify it
Nothing magnifies the glory of God more than a response to suffering
1. We wouldn’t see God’s glory if not for suffering
2. We wouldn’t know that we love God if not for suffering
3. We wouldn’t be here if Jesus ended suffering at the cross
4. Suffering humbles us
5. Suffering gives us deep purpose and meaning
6. It builds courage and valor on the inside
The cross = the glory of the suffering God revealed
Behold Him on the cross. Christ in us, the hope of glory
