PowerUp
When we think of hunger we rarely think of those in our own neighborhoods. We never think of the children and students that we see everyday. Unfortunately, many of the children in our city struggle with hunger every day.
PowerUp is a weekend backpack program committed to feeding hungry children in our community's public schools. We currently serve over 400 students every weekend in the Portage Public School District, and we are making an effort to expand into more schools in the Kalamazoo region.
“Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon. Isaiah 53:10”
We serve children who participate in their schools' free and reduced lunch programs by packing, delivering and sending them home with meals that they can easily prepare for themselves. Without PowerUp, many of these students would not otherwise have access to food on the weekend.
